2009 Hunt Country Vineyards Valvin Muscat

Such a wonderful nose on this wine--combination of peaches, wet rock, and freshly cut grass. The aromas exploded from the glass! Really great stuff!

The flavors were bursting with juicy ripe peaches, grassy notes, and slate. Depth of flavors was definitely present in this Muscat--offering surprising complexity. The wine had good mouthfeel--dry with a long finish. Truly a delightful white wine!

Body: Light to Medium
Approx. Cost: $13
Food Pairing: Roasted chicken and vegetables

2007 Hunt Wines Late Harvest Vignoles

This late harvest dessert wine is Vignoles, a popular grape of the Finger Lakes region of NY. The nose is excellent--honeydew melon and spiced honey with a touch of citrus fill the glass.

We tasted that same spiced honey, some juicy golden apple and even a little caramel! It has a nice herbaceous/grassy note to it that really brings it down to earth.

It is a dessert wine, so expect a considerable amount of sweetness, though it isn't overly so. It's not a fruit bomb of a wine. The finish is long and acidity is just slight. This Vignoles has a wonderful depth of flavors showing complex flavor profiles that are exquisite. Superb effort by Hunt Country Vineyards!

2009 Hunt Country Vineyards Semi-Dry Riesling

We didn't get much on the nose in the glass with this Riesling. The aromas were there, but seemed too faint to make out. Although, the flavors were bursting with granny smith apples and a touch of honey! It is semi-dry with just the right amount of sweetness. Very nice balance of flavors and acidity. The finish is surprisingly long and creamy. We liked the fact that it was so smooth without being flat. This Riesling still has a crisp mouthfeel.

We thought this would pair very well with food, as well as a standalone wine. You can get this for about $14 and we think that's a great deal for a quality riesling! Another solid wine from the folks at Hunt Wines. We're finding that this winery is offering a strong line of quality wines at very affordable prices! Definitely check them out if you have the chance. They're one of those wineries you discover coming out of the woodwork that never fail to disappoint you. Great stuff!

2009 Hunt Country Vineyards Chardonnay

We're always on the lookout for a good Chardonnay--oaked or not! They pair very well with a boat-load of dishes! What we find most of the time is way too much oak or way too much fruit.

This Chardonnay from Hunt Wines smelled awesome from the glass, although it's pineapple, pear and citrus aromas led us to believe it was going to be another fruit bomb. Never safe to assume, these lovely fruit flavors were accompanied by grassy notes and a touch of vanilla/oak! It had great mouthfeel--very rounded and creamy along with some good acidity for balance. Great stuff, and for being only about $12, it's Awesome stuff!

2009 Hunt Country Vineyards Cayuga White

Cayuga White is a hybrid grape specific to the Finger Lakes region of New York. This Cayuga by Hunt Country Vineyards is fruit forward with super juicy pineapple and granny smith apple, accompanied by some very nice slate-like mineral taste and even some grassy flavors! It's not very sweet, more like off-dry. The mouthfeel is super smooth, almost creamy. Many "creamy" wines tend to be flat, but this has a wonderful balance of acidity!

It isn't super complex, but for $10 you get a very delicious, well-balanced white wine! Many $20 don't drink like this! We thought this would go very well with a nice cheese and cracker spread! We'd also recommend pairing with Sushi! Cheers!

2008 Hunt Country Vineyards Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc, a varietal that continuously shines in the North East, really shows true in this wine by Hunt Wines. It shows beautifully in the glass with it's vibrant ruby color!

The aromas are bursting with raspberries, cherries, earth, and dried figs. The flavor profile is layered with fresh herbs and pepper. Faint black cherry and oak accompany these flavors wonderfully! This cab franc is medium in body, smooth, and dry, with soft tannins.

For $17 this Cabernet Franc is worth every penny. It is complex, bursting with flavor, and would pair excellent with cheeses and meals. Cheers!

NV Hunt Country Vineyards "Hunter's Red"

This red blend from New York is 35% DeChaunac, 33% Seyval Blanc (a white grape), and 32% Corot Noir--all hybrid grape varieties popular in the Finger Lakes region of New York.

Attention to all white wine drinkers with aspirations of broader horizons! Because this wine is blended partially with a white grape varietal, it displays the characteristics of many white wines (higher acidity, lighter body, and a little bit of sweetness) to pair with the stronger character of some red wines!

Let's begin with the aromas. Not typical of white wines, this red blend offers up some wonderful earthy, mossy, basement notes along with some ripe cherries. The mouth-feel is great. Again, not typical of many red wines, the acidity really hits the back of your mouth! It isn't overwhelming by any means--refreshing if anything! It's medium in body with off-dry characteristics (not quite semi-sweet, but almost there). We pick up those earthy notes we picked up on the nose with some figs and black cherries. It follows with a lingering finish. This is a wonderful and interesting wine, as it somehow brings together both worlds of red and white wine seamlessly. We definitely recommend this wine, especially to white wine drinkers who wish to expand their palates! Cheers to Hunt Wines for creating such an interesting wine, something More Wine hasn't seen yet!

By the way, we suspect this wine would pair wonderfully with barbecued ribs! We'll try this in the future to test it out. For about $9 a bottle, you can afford to do the same!

2010 Hunt Country Vineyards Alchemy Red

Reminiscent of Burgundy, this red blend from Hunt Wines smelled great in the glass! We really liked the smells of earth, spices, and yes, barnyard! It sounds odd, but that description drives home the rustic earthy smells from the wine.

The mouthfeel was very good--a bit on the drier side. We tasted black peppercorns, black cherries, and fresh herbs. The wine had an overall vegetal taste. The oak flavors were perfect, not too much, not too little. Very solid wine that will pair well with food or on its own! This red is a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Noiret, from New York, where more and more quality wines are being produced. The conditions are favorable to certain grape varietals, creating some fantastic wines! Check out Hunt Wines.
