2009 R. Muller Riesling

We've been discovering some great finds in boxed wines. We don't mean the <$10 Franzia! More winemakers are exploring the box wine option, offering a great balance between value and quality.

This is a 2009 Riesling in an Octavin "home wine bar." We smelled and tasted some honey and grassy notes. Unfortunately, these flavors were overcome by its imbalance. It lacked acidity and complexity, making it flat, overly sweet, and very one dimensional. It didn't help that it was a fruit bomb. There are plenty of inexpensive Rieslings that are more serviceable. While we've found some really decent boxed wines, this one is a pass. For $24 that this will cost you, you can buy 3 $8 Rieslings that drink better.
