2009 Layer Cake Shiraz

At first, this wine really caught our attention after pouring. This shiraz was as full bodied, rich, and dark as ink. It showed strong aromas of jammy fruit and light oak. We tasted raspberry and strawberry jams, mocha, and light oak. This wine had decent tannins, a long finish, and very good mouth feel. As we continued to drink, we found the sweet berries took over the wine. The 14.9% alcohol wasn't overpowering, but as for the fruit forward sweetness, this layer cake needed to be a little more balanced!
